Sexual health and rights education is still a big taboo around the world, with dramatic consequences for too many young people. A lack of comprehensive sexuality education for young women and men can have the following effects: Less use of condoms, leading to a higher risk of STIs, including HIV. Less use of contraceptives leading to an increased risk of unintended pregnancy. The lack of knowledge in relation to sexuality combined with less understanding leads to more stigmatization and shame in relation to sexual identity and one's own gender.

In this episode, Carine Weiss talks to Karin Stierlin about her success with the App «Love Land». «Love Land» is a multi-channel program to make sexual and reproductive health (SRH) education globally accessible. We talked about the process of developing the App, who it serves for and what is needed to break taboos around sexuality of young people.

Karin Stierlin
Karin Stierlin founded the non-for-profit taboobreaker association in 2014. She has been working as an expert in the field of sexual and reproductive health education for more than 20 years. Her frustration with the lack of innovative and effective evidence-based learning for children and adolescents on sexuality and risk reduction and the complex taboos surrounding these subjects, prompted her to establish taboobreaker to address the absence of modern, digital tools supporting young people to transition into adulthood safely and confidently.

She has great empathy for, and a strong connection with young people, and has highly developed skills in designing playful learning programs in the field of sexual and reproductive health.
