Ageing and health: a neglected dimension

Population ageing is a global megatrend that presents both challenges and opportunities. From 2000 to 2050, the proportion of 60-year-olds and older in the global population will double, whereas the proportion of those aged 80-years and older will almost quadruple. In the first progress report on the UN Decade of Healthy Ageing published in 2023, the WHO and its UN partner organisations revealed that less than a third of countries have sufficient resources to implement the goals of this UN Decade. In this MMS Bulletin, we address the issue of ageing and health and its effects and dimensions.
