The Global Fund is one of the most important financial instruments to fight AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria. It was founded in 2002 with the task of raising and providing additional financial resources for the prevention and treatment of these three diseases. Without these funds, it will not be possible to end AIDS by 2030 or to effectively combat tuberculosis and malaria around the world. The GFATM works in close collaboration with local partners: governments, NGOs, the private sector, development organisations and local communities affected by HIV.
Switzerland supports the GFATM both financially and thematically through active partnerships in which MMS is also involved as part of the Swiss delegation within the Australian-Canadian-Swiss seat on the Global Fund Board. MMS is tasked with voicing civil society concerns to build a bridge between Switzerland, the implementers of the Fund and its final beneficiaries. The Board is the highest body in the Global Fund whose responsibilities should be shared.
