When they adopted the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development in 2015, the international community undertook a paradigm shift. For the first time, each state committed itself to a comprehensive global social contract to coherently address global challenges and problems in diverse areas. In a total of 17 goals and 169 targets, the 2030 Agenda sets out the foundations for a fairer and more sustainable world in which all people can live self-determined lives with dignity and security.
In particular, the intrinsic goal of focusing national and international policies more strongly on the global common good and, above all, reaching marginalised people (“leaving no one behind”) is recognised to be at the core of the 2030 Agenda and one of its most important achievements, for which civil society fought very hard. Alongside the goals of social security and equality for women, the third sustainable development goal (SDG3), which aims to achieve health for all by 2030, is of particular interest to MMS. Together with our member organisations within the network, and as a member of the civil society platform 2030 Agenda, MMS is calling upon politicians to implement the necessary changes towards sustainability.
